Matthew A. Grossman

Matt grew up in Knoxville. He attended Sequoyah Hills Elementary School, the Webb School of Knoxville, and the Baylor School in Chattanooga. Matt received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt in 1998, and afterwards, he returned home to Knoxville, where he earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee in 2002. While in law school, he worked for United States District Judge James Jarvis and served as an Acting Assistant District Attorney General in Knox County. After law school, he was privileged to serve as a judicial clerk for Justice Riley Anderson of the Supreme Court of Tennessee and for Judge Charles Susano of the Court of Appeals of Tennessee.

Matt joined Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP in 2004 and became a partner in 2012. He has practiced in fields as varied as defense of the First Amendment, land title litigation, tax, business and land use planning, commercial law, complex litigation, and bankruptcy, and is rated by Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent® (the highest rating provided) regarding litigation and real estate law. Also since joining the firm, Matt returned to school, and he earned his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Alabama. With his state-wide real estate litigation practice, Matt has enjoyed the privilege of appearing in all of Tennessee’s Federal courts and courts in all but three of Tennessee’s State judicial districts.

Matt is member of the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations, and is a frequent CLE presenter for the Tennessee Land Title Association.

Matt is licensed to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals in the Sixth District, the U.S. Tax Court, as well as all state and federal courts throughout Tennessee and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Since 2021, Matt has served as a hearing committee member of the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee.

Outside of the office, Matt enjoys traveling with his family and participating in his children’s youth sports organizations.
