Richard T. Scrugham, Jr

With his focus on being the absolute best advocate possible for his clients, Rich truly cares about the people he serves and makes it a priority to provide them with timely, effective and efficient legal representation and advice.

Rich practices in the areas of estate planning (wills, trusts, powers of attorney), estate litigation (will contests and estate claims), probate administration, conservatorships, real estate law, and small business law (including contracts, business formations, employee issues and business litigation).

He belongs to the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations, and is active in the Tennessee Veterans Business Association and the Farragut/West Knoxville Chamber of Commerce.

Rich, who has lived in Knoxville for most of his life, graduated from Duke University in 1993 and received a J.D. from the University of Tennessee in 2000. The third generation of his family to serve on active duty in the military, he was a squadron intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Eisenhower. 

Outside of the office, Rich’s passions are his family, their two miniature schnauzers, and volunteering. He and his wife have three teenage sons and they enjoy hiking and camping together. He is a past troop leader with Trail Life USA, a Christian outdoor adventure program for boys.  Rich also enjoys reading, with an affinity for history, politics and business.
