On February 28, 2011, Second Harvest Food Bank lost one-third to one-half of its inventory when flash flooding hit its Delaware Avenue warehouse. In addition to the inventory loss, the high water damaged delivery trucks and employee vehicles.
With six major programs and 500 Agency/Food Partners, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee serves approximately 158,000 people each month. Second Harvest has 8,500 students in the agency’s Food4Kids program, which serves 188 schools in 18 counties, allowing school administrators to fill backpacks for economically disadvantaged students on Fridays, and the food carries them through the weekend.
