It likely comes as no surprise to those of you that work in health care and social services that the industry has a high incidence of injuries due to work place violence. In fact more than 70% of the 23,000 significant injuries due to an assault at work occurred in the health care and social service industry. Workplace violence accounts for 13% of the injuries in health care and social services (as compared to 4% in the private sector). The numbers of injuries in health care and social services increased in 2012 and 2013.
In response to this OSHA has revised the guidelines which include worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control, training and record keeping, and evaluations of the programs.
